Synopsis
Play with me Sesame is essentially a visual play-date hosted by Sesame Street regulars - Ernie, Bert, Grover and Prairie Dawn - who invite children to participate in a variety of games and activities.
Points to consider
Words of caution
Slapstick comedy includes:
- Characters play a train game and crash (off screen) but reappear dizzy and shaken, especially Grover who collapses shortly thereafter. While this is done for comic effect, any children trying this at home are potentially at risk of hurting themselves and others.
- Super Grover crashes into people and inanimate objects while attempting to land.
- Bert often shouts at Ernie in frustration.
Positive aspects
- Bert teaches colours, matching and patterns (early maths concepts) through use of his computer games
- children are praised and encouraged in no matter what they want to be
- the characters try to help one another.
Questions to ask
- Do you think that would hurt if that happened in real life?
- Is there another way that Bert could deal with Ernie?
