Synopsis

Peppa Pig lives with her loving, but slightly bumbling father, Daddy Pig, her very sensible Mummy Pig and her little brother George. Together they work through some of life’s little obstacles, laughing and supporting one another along the way.

Points to consider

Words of caution

  • Peppa’s father often does silly things like climbing out onto a branch of a tree to reach a kite even through he is far too heavy for the branch. He then crashes to the ground and the narrator quickly interjects that he is unhurt. This behaviour demonstrates to childen that parents make mistakes and are not invincible, but also demonstrates behaviours that could be very dangerous if imitated.

Positive aspects

  • Peppa’s family can find humour under many circumstances and provide a positive example to children and parents about seeing the lighter side of certain situations
  • demonstrates a loving and supportive family environment
  • exhibits friendliness, encouragement, patience and helpfulness

Questions to ask

Incidents portrayed give parents the opportunity to discuss certain safety issues with their children, for example:

  • Do you think that Daddy pig made a good decision to go and get that kite?
  • Was there another way that they could have safely reached the kite?
