Synopsis

Using computer animated graphics Noddy depicts the adventures of a group of toys that have come to life. They have created their own community called Toyland and must learn to live together peacefully and happily despite life’s ups and downs.

Points to consider

Words of caution

Accidental harm includes:

  • Noddy accidentally hits Big Ears’ bike with his car. He has it fixed for him but requests that the mechanic put a motor on the bike to help it go faster. Big ears eventually crashes when he looses control of the bike, he is unhurt but the bike is damaged again.
  • Noddy is not paying attention when he is driving his car and almost hits the policeman Mr. Plod. Later a dog sitting on a crossing is nearly hit by a truck.
  • In the opening scenes Noddy tosses a gift to Monica Monkey but it accidentally hits her on the head. Master Tubby Bear laughs.
  • Master Tubby Bear decides to have an "opposite day" and, in the process of saying the opposite of what he means, is very rude and confuses a lot of people. In frustration he kicks at a marble ball.

Positive aspects

  • shows characters taking responsibility for actions and trying to set things right
  • demonstrates kindness, patience and empathy when someone is having a rough day
  • depicts a community coming together and working together to make sure things run smoothly for everyone.

Questions to ask

  • How could Noddy have avoided hitting Big Ears’ bike?

  • Do you think he should have asked Big Ears if he wanted a motor on his bike?

  • What things can we do to keep ourselves safe when we are riding a bike or driving in a car?

  • What do you think about the way that Tubby Bear was speaking to people? What lessons do you suppose he learned after everything that happened, or almost happened, on his "opposite day"?
