Synopsis

Little Bear is a curious and imaginative young cub who is lovingly guided and encouraged by Mother and Father Bear. Together the family and their friends share many adventures.

Points to consider

Words of caution

  • There is one instance of slapstick comedy when Little Bear wacks his father on the bottom with a fly swatter. He is trying to hit a fly but hits his dad instead. The fly flies away unharmed and Father Bear talks to Little Bear about the need to respect nature.

Positive aspects

  • teaches respect for living creatures
  • demonstrates healthy family relationships
  • Little Bear discovers that it is OK that he enjoys different things to his friends and that he doesn’t have to prove anything to them
  • The Bear family takes pleasure in the simple things of life and together demonstrate the values of love, respect and honesty.

Questions to ask

  • How are flies useful? What would happen if there were no more flies in the world?
  • Little Bear and Father Bear make breakfast for Mother Bear and are thoughtful and considerate of one another. What could you do for someone else that would brighten their day?
