Synopsis

Ethelbert is a Tiger cub who lives in the jungle near his wise, human friend Dilip. Whenever Ethelbert has a question, or whenever Dilip sees an opportunity to teach Ethelbert a lesson, the pair take off through a magic waterfall that will transport them anywhere in the world for one day. Together they learn fascinating things in the different countries and meet many new friends along the way.

Points to consider

Words of caution

  • None

Positive aspects

  • celebrates diversity
  • takes common childhood complaints such as ‘why do I have to listen to what my mum and dad say?’ and ‘I have no one to play with because my brothers and sisters are boring’ and shows an example of why it is important to listen or how other things can be far more unpleasant than playing with siblings
  • puts things into a perspective that children can easily relate to and learn from

Questions to ask

  • What did Ethelbert learn on his journey?
