Synopsis

The seven Boblins, each a different colour of the rainbow, live in a vibrant place called Rainbow’s End. Together the mischievous, fun-loving, friends have many adventures as they work together caring for the environment, the animals and each other.

Points to consider

Words of caution

Contains some slapstick comedy, including:

  • One character is often seen accidentally falling off ladders, always unhurt, sometimes landing with a bucket on his head.

Positive aspects

  • The Boblins help develop general knowledge and skills
  • They support various learning outcomes and their websites contain links for both parents and teachers with educational activities and discussion suggestions
  • They encourage persistence, co-operative problem solving, friendship and a sense of community as well as personal, social and emotional development.

Questions to ask

  • Yam Yam (one of the Boblins) opens a magician’s magic box without permission, which is where all the trouble begins. Parents could discuss whether or not this was a good thing to do and might have their children hypothesize about what might have happened has he not opened the box in the first place.
  • Children are given the opportunity to look at things from a different perspective. For example, when Bodkin (another Boblin) is changed into a pig, Yum Yum laughs at him, but Bodkin doesn’t want to be a pig. Parents could ask their children how they think that Bodkin feels when Yum Yum laughs at the situation.
