Synopsis

Help the Bratz girls to create and publish their own magazine while they aid their friends, buy the latest fashions, travel the world, and solve puzzles along the way.

Points to consider

Words of caution

  • Promotes concepts of body image (eg. the need to conform to a particular weight or size - usually underweight), glamour and fashion to impressionable young children.
  • There are minor deceptive elements to the game (eg. sneaking and stealing).
  • There is a small amount of product placement (although most store names in the game are fictitious).

Positive aspects

  • Encourages friendship and teamwork.

Questions to ask

  • Parents could discuss role models and the impact of peer pressure on development and behaviour eg. “Do you like/have to have clothes with brand names? Why?”, or “Do you like wearing the same clothes as your friends? Why?”  Group affiliation is crucial to development but may be better achieved some other way eg. “What other things could you do to be like your friends?”  Answers involving similar sporting interests or hobbies would be ideal and should be encouraged.
